Note For Lil Jaida

Your beauty is far from a curse

It’s something like a love song

Or a well written verse

Of a specially written love poem

It’s not for every man to understand

It’s not one dimensional

It’s multi

Something that truly can only be seen

When someone focuses their third eye

It can be used as a litmus test…

Failure to realize

Carries consequences of being characterized

Like the rest

That were only able to see you

As a simple physical conquest

I am a writer

At least that’s one of the things I do

Writers paint pictures with words

And I choose all of mine carefully

Like the strokes with paintbrushes artists use

If I was only talking about how you look

I’d say, “you LOOK beautiful”

When I put ‘you are’ in front of the word

BEAUTIFUL

I’m thinking of all the qualities I’ve noticed so far

I am talking about all of you

Beautiful in a sense that the mere definition of beauty found in dictionaries across the land are a discredit to your true essence. There is no encyclopedic or Wikipedia reference that would be an equivalence to your grandeur. You are so beautiful that you make me want to pick up my pad and my pen and let them get reacquainted so that their offspring can grace the world reincarnated speaking of your excellence. You are not only visually beautiful, you are so much more than that. Your voice is beautiful. Your smile is beautiful. Your smirk is beautiful. Your style is beautiful. Your heart and the depth of the love that I perceive it to have is beautiful. How you think is beautiful (I don’t think there is anything more attractive than an intelligent lady). Your class is beautiful. Your strength is beautiful. I could go on and on and on…

Digital Love (Computer Love)

Most times when you jump on social media for the day, there are tons of posts about a plethora of things.  Some of the things that are posted are toxic, some are about social injustices, there are a bunch of travel photos and some posts with people just trying to get attention.  And we can’t forget about the political circus that is going on right now.  If we get caught sleeping, the whole world will soon be Trumped. Then there’s #blacklivesmatter, #alllivesmatter, LGBT equality and that whole police militarization thing.

There are also times on social media where you come across something or someone that allows you to escape the onslaught of world issues and allows you to just live in a moment of peace, tranquility and possibly even, adoration… Those are the little moments, when you get to smile a real smile that makes the rest of the mess in the digital world tolerable.  I just happened to be listening to some old school music when someone like that crossed my timeline.

With or without filter

I see her natural glow

I thought about mentioning her

Just to let her know

Whether she’s made up or not

Hashtag or no hashtag

She’s always trending:

Girl is #Beautiful

It doesn’t matter if it’s

The East, South, Midwest or West Coast

The answer to the question

Everyone wants to know:

What is it that could give her heartbeat tattoo

A proper pulse?

It’s just something about her being…

Whenever this Selfie Queen is seen

In my Facebook or Instagram feed

The air in my lungs tendency is to leave

Breath is seized

Completely stripped from me…

Like a Zapp & Roger thing

Could it be her face I see,

On my computer screen,

That’s challenging me to breathe?

“I no longer need astrology

Thanks to modern technology”

From her posts I’ve been able to perceive

Samples of her personality

A class act

in virtual reality

She’s not your average

Tinder find

If we matched,

She’d be the last time

I’d need to be swiping right

She is…

A digital wonder (Computerized)

Seems like she’d be

Such a sweet delight

In 2 dimensions

She indeed

Looks more than nice

Can’t help but imagine

What a 3rd dimensional experience

In her presence would feel like…

“Shooby doo bop shoo doo bop”

Who wouldn’t love her

“Shooby doo bop…computer love”

I’ll Be Your Puppet

Puppet For YouBy: Monique Brent

Puppet For You
By: Monique Brent

On my journey,
I have been many things
Believed my direction sound
Previously
Now I am walking
Aimlessly
No longer certain
What I was searching for

I’m retired now
Lifelessly
On the floor

Through many closed door…

You strolled right in
Lifted me up
Permitted me
To stretch my limbs
Through your fingers
My body now moves
I’m in your hands
I’ll take your cues

I’ll be Your puppet
Take my strings
Pull at these
As You please
Choose any path for me
That path I’ll go
Relinquishing all control
Asking You to guide my life
Be my maestro

I’m Your puppet
On these strings
Tug at them
As You please
Choose any way and
That way I will go
When it comes to You
Your hand guides me
Your love is in control

AILMENT

Thoughts of you are so painful to me

They are causing debilitating headaches

And my nose to bleed

As if I had suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury

From not wearing a seatbelt and experiencing the force felt

Of being in a collision with

A Detroit city bus (16 Dexter)

You are like this discomforting feeling…

A misplaced vertebrae in my spine

Constantly reminding me

Is the pain that is shot from my behind

Into the core of my mind

Framed to be somethin’ I ain’t no more

Physically,

No longer am I inclined

To dunk from the dotted arc

Or shoot from 3 point lines…

Before you grabbed ahold of me

I used to be able to leap into new heights

Fly high like childhood kites at the beach

Bitch!

Why you tryin’ to ground me!?

Pulling me down

Puppeting me around

Tugging at my strings

You’re inhibiting me

Like a lingering ACL injury

Leaving me wondering

Will I ever be what I used to be

Cutting into me painfully

Like reconstructive surgery

Succeeded in damaging the last of the vast nerves in me

Recently it has occurred to me

You are nothing but an ailment

I’ve got to let you go

This shit is hurting me
